Family Breast Cancer

Posted by: | Comments (0)

It is so frightening when you find out that someone you know, or particularly some one in your family, has breast cancer.  When you find out you feel like you cannot breathe and you can barely believe it is really happening.  Breast cancer is one of the hardest experiences to watch a family member go through.  My mom was actually diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer when I was in middle school. The most difficult part about it for me was watching her go through the chemo therapy.  There was one day where she was so upset about all of it and she started crying and asking me why it had to happen to her.  I feel so bad for families that have to go through this struggle .

The best word of encouragement I can offer to families who have some one that is diagnosed with breast cancer is to keep up their hope.  I know its so hard to when it looks like the person is suffering so much right in front of you.  Nonetheless, you have to keep up hope that they are going to beat it and believe that they will.  If you are in that mindset and acting that way , the person in your family who is suffering with breast cancer will pick up on it and have hope for themselves. Your attitude about it makes a big difference.

The good news is that there is so much being doing these days to support people with breast cancer.  There are a lot of fundraisers and there is a lot of medical research being done in hope of discovering a cure.  Pretty much anything you see that has a light pink color on it is in support of discovering a cure for breast cancer.  I know my mom has a light pink breast cancer awareness hat, a girls pink cowboy hat, and one of these that she rotates wearing for breast cancer awareness events.  My mom is the strongest person I know for having experienced all of that and having survived it for about twelve years.  I hope that there are more stories out there like my mom’s of people surviving breast cancer, even when they are diagnosed with it at a late stage.  My heart goes out to all of you!
